This is NWA 15733, a classified H5 ordinary chondrite with a mass of 1989 g. This Meteorite Main Mass represents the complete meteorite apart from a 27.76 g sample deposited at Appalachian State University for scientific study. The meteorite is a dark-colored, irregularly shaped stone with a distinct chondritic texture visible on the cut surface. It measures approximately 11 × 10 × 9 cm. Scientific and Physical Characteristics
NWA 15733 is an officially classified H5 ordinary chondrite. The meteorite displays a recrystallized chondritic texture with distinct chondrules and fragments set within a clastic matrix crosscut by FeOH veinlets. The average apparent diameter of the chondrules is approximately 375 μm (n=83). Identified minerals include olivine, clinoenstatite, altered FeNi grains, troilite, Ti-bearing chromite, apatite and secondary calcite.
Shock-related features include irregular and planar fractures in olivine, undulatory extinction and polycrystalline troilite. Approximately 90% of the FeNi grains have been weathered to FeOH minerals. The measured mass magnetic susceptibility is log χ × 10⁻⁹ m³/kg = 5.16.
Geochemical analysis yielded olivine compositions of Fa18.2 ± 0.3 with an Fe/Mn ratio of 34.0 ± 1.0 (n=12). Low-Ca pyroxene has a composition of Fs16.5 ± 0.6Wo1.7 ± 2.1 with an Fe/Mn ratio of 22.0 ± 1.1 (n=12). Based on its mineral compositions, magnetic susceptibility and distinct chondrules, NWA 15733 is classified as an H5 ordinary chondrite.
