Scientific and Physical Characteristics

NWA 869 is a polymict ordinary chondrite (H/L group) and one of the most commonly recovered meteorites from Northwest Africa. Its composition reflects a mixture of lithologies with different degrees of thermal metamorphism, indicating extensive brecciation and reworking on its parent asteroid through repeated impact events. The sample is characterized by strong textural heterogeneity, combining both more highly metamorphosed and less altered chondritic components within a single stone.

The endcut preserves part of the meteorite’s natural exterior while exposing its internal structure on the cut surface, allowing observation of the brecciated texture and mixed lithologies characteristic of NWA 869.
