This specimen is a 37.7 g fragment of the meteorite NWA 15788. NWA 15788 is classified as an HED achondrite diogenite from the crust of asteroid Vesta. It represents a coarse-grained igneous rock formed during early planetary differentiation. Scientific and Physical Characteristics
This meteorite consists predominantly of orthopyroxene-rich diogenitic material with minor eucritic components and accessory phases such as anorthite and chromite. Its polymict breccia structure reflects mechanical mixing of lithologically distinct fragments due to impact processes on the parent body.
Classification as a diogenite is based on orthopyroxene chemistry and cumulate igneous textures. The brecciated nature indicates later impact reworking and lithification. The specimen shows low shock and low weathering grades consistent with limited terrestrial alteration.
